Yeah hunting. Yeah home protection. But also I just think guns are cool and shooting is fun. That's valid too. We don't need some deep reason every time., sometimes the answer is just "because I want to."

Why own guns is a good question. I own guns for a combination of reasons. Mostly, it feels like a birthright, deeply rooted in the nation’s history, law, and culture. I grew up with most of the TV shows as war or western shoot-em-ups.

I read once, that the high percentage of gun owners in this country was the reason Japan did not land troops in the continental USA. US gun owners present a creditable deterrent to those considering a takeover of our nation whether homegrown or foreign.

To me, guns mean being responsible and keeping traditions alive. They're about skills passed down, not just rights. Having them makes me think of the people before me who cared about taking care of themselves and being ready.

I own guns just as I own tools; they help with self-defense, hunting, predator control and are fun to shoot. The reason I buy more is a deeper question. I guess I just enjoy the act of ownership. Knowing I have them gives me pleasure in itself. I just like them.

The reason I own guns started a long time ago and has changed over the years. No one in my family really shot guns. My das had one but I never saw it. My gun ownership started as a rebellion thing, Kind of like smoking or whatever. The “assault rifle ban” was in effect so l got a mini14 and sks and just blasted like Yosemite Sam. Of course I don’t really shoot that way anymore, and the ar15 is America’s gun. Now I own guns for protection and hunting and target practice and reloading. I quit smoking too.
