Started shooting at age 16 with a Sears-purchased .22 bolt action, back when a 16 year-old could legally order a rifle from Sears. Still own the rifle and still take a naughty squirrel with it every now and then. Own multiple hand guns and rifles and still enjoy the shooting sports.

Welcome aboard from coastal North Carolina. Those Sears .22 rifles were great for beginners. I started with the one my Dad had as a kid. I got to old for rifles, but keep my hand in gun play with mostly S&W Gen3s. Enjoy the forum!

My first semi-auto was a S&W 910s. I put a Crimson Trace grip on and replaced the guide rod with an S&W ordered metal guide rod. I bought it, despite the shop's resident gunsmith's complete disdain for Smith semi-autos, because it had everything I was looking for at the time. It's overall look and feel suited me and it's accuracy at 25 yards has been quite good with everything I've put through it. It's reliability has also been great, with no issues whatsoever over the years I've owned it. Really cannot understand the forum's apparent distain for the 910s; have never regretted buying one.

My first Gen3 was a 910 too. I like it so much I bought a 908; then, a host of other Gen3 9mm and .40S&W. My wife warned me that I was needing a 12-step group. I wondered out loud if they had any groups at the range. She declared I was hopeless. I am.

While I've enjoyed the S&W 910, I must confess that its the only Smith I own. My "collection" is eclectic and represents just about every major handgun manufacturer out there, including Colt (modern and antique), Mauser, Bersa, Walther, Kimber, Ruger, Springfield Armory. Browning, Taurus and Harrington & Richardson. None was an impulse purchase, but something I researched and gave thought to my intended use, i.e. CC, home defense, car gun, plinking, training, etc. Haven't bought anything in a while, but the itch is there...

Welcome from southeastern NC , funny I still have my old Sears .22 bolt action rifle also and my S&W model 59 from back in my LEO days.
