Everyone says dress in layers. Sure, fine. But if your base layer sucks, nothing else matters. I spent money on good merino wool base layers and it changed cold weather hunting completely. Stop cheaping out on the foundation. What cold weather gear investment actually made the biggest difference for you?

First, great quality underwear.
I dress in thin layers right now. I have long sleeves on, and sweats, and socks. I like a good hat, but not required.

Merino wool is the absolute best thing ever. It’s not like old school scratchy wool. It’s the most comfortable fabric there is now. And as far as scent control, it never ever stinks. Darn Tough socks socks are a true game changer.

Exactly, base layers set the tone. Even simple, thin layers work if the material actually keeps you warm.

Couldn’t agree more. Merino and quality socks make long days in cold weather far more comfortable.
