Alan, what show did you just finish watching? What genre appeals to you?
My wife and I enjoy mostly foreign crime shows and use the closed captioning feature. My wife is in charge of the TV, and subscribes to Amazon, Prime, Brit Box, MHD, Netflix, Acorn, PBS, and others often using their one month free option. She then doesn't opt for continuing the programing from that provider, but may take up the free 1-month option when it becomes available again.
We seem to avoid US shows. We tried Reacher, but it didn't work for us. I've read the entire series so the show fell flat.
One of our favorites is "Murder In", a French show, that might appeal to you. "Murder In" is on MHD.
The show takes the viewer to many different parts of the country. A real nice introduction to the countryside and urban places to visit if traveling to France. You also note the various cultural differences within France, and how that effects the investigation. The main actors, state police investigators, vary but return in several episodes throughout the series investigating a different murder in a different location.
Downton Abbey, on PBS, is another fine series you might enjoy. Others to consider are Australian shows - Brokenwood Mysteries and Blue Heeler on Brit Box or Acorn. These shows might be found elsewhere too.
