Ran out of my preferred defensive ammo

That’s the golden rule, never trust ammo you haven’t run through your gun. Today’s backup could be tomorrow’s lifesaver

I keep on hand a fair amount of factory SD carry ammo.
If, for some reason that runs out, I have duplicate handloads that will entirely suffice, same bullet, same velocity. I have no qualms about using it.
Internet lore of walking the tightrope over Hades by using handloads is 99.9% BS and little to no case law showing it to be any sort of an issue.

I ran out of my preferred defensive ammo during a drought and had to test a different brand. It fed fine, grouped fine and now I have a backup. Always test before you trust..
Great advice to test before you trust! Another consideration when making your next ammo choice is matching your buy to the ammo your local sheriff issues to the deputies.
Carrying the same ammunition as your local law enforcement can help mitigate legal risks. If a self-defense incident occurs, using standardized ammo may provide a defense in legal situations. It can also save you big bucks not having your attorney hire a ballistics expert to explain your choice to a jury of gun shy non-HRA members.

yeah always double-check things, never just assume.

Standardizing with local LE can help but trusting your ammo to perform matters way more when it counts
