I’ve heard some pretty questionable gun advice over the years, and a few lines still make me shake my head. What’s the worst piece of advice you’ve ever heard someone give about firearms?

My elder brother gave me his JC Higgins 12 gauge pump MANY moons ago. A few years ago my son wanted it, and I hadn't used it in years, so I gave it to him. He uses it often, so it was a good choice. Those 1950's shotguns hold up very nicely!

Fast forward to last summer ... I had a need (ok, want) for a shotgun ... so I bought another one. This story has a happy ending, unlike some. :)

In the 40 or so years that I have been acquiring guns I have only parted with two of them. I don't really regret parting with either one of them. One was a nine shot .22lr revolver with a cylinder gap so tight that the gun would lock up from carbon fouling after firing less than a handful of cylinders. Damn thing was accurate though. The other was a break action, single shot .22lr that produced shotgun patterns. So, their are times when it's best just to cut your losses.

A very opinionated gunsmith who worked at my LGS told me in 2006, “Do not buy a S&W semi-auto: they’re crap!” I didn’t listen then and never sought his “advice” again.
