Vehicle-mounted gun storage

I've been looking into vehicle gun storage options after someone broke into my truck last month while I was grabbing lunch. Luckily nothing was in there, but it got me thinking about secure storage for when I can't carry into certain places. Does anyone have good recommendations of not just something that looks secure but actually works.

Most security solutions only buy you a short time before the thief scampers off with your handgun and security container. Thieves normally are in and out of the car or truck within one minute after checking under the car seats, glove box, and anything that draws their attention.

There are plenty of products that fit most pocket books, but I'd be reluctant to leave my gun unattended for more than a few minutes.

Your truck manufacturer may already make something for your security needs. I'd start there.

Most important thing- do NOT have any pro gun, hunting, optics stickers on your vehicle. It just advertises, come steal my guns. I have an ar15 pistol, and my concealed carry permit. I bought a harbor freight tool bag, put gun and hunting supplies inside. I have tinted windows, but surely even if someone saw it, they wouldn’t break a window for harbor freight crap. Anyway, as far as securing, I’m sorry I don’t know. If you do secure it and lock it, keep it out of sight or your window will get busted and they will steal whatever you have even if they can’t get the gun.

@Supa_nova, that was a wake up call. Look at vehicle specific lock boxes from the truck maker or aftermarket that mount to the frame, keep it hidden, and never leave a gun unattended longer than necessary

Good point, no lockbox is foolproof if someone’s determined. I’ll check what the manufacturer offers and keep it limited to short stops, it definitely made me rethink leaving anything valuable inside.

Good advice, I’ll avoid advertising, use nondescript containers, and limit leaving firearms unattended to very short stops. Thanks.
