Living in North Carolina and dealing with the humidity and heat has me rethinking my carry setup. Last summer I noticed some surface rust starting on my carry gun after just a few months of daily use, the moisture here is relentless. What are you guys carrying that handles the NC climate well?

Man, I feel that. NC humidity will eat a finish fast. I’d go with something like a Glock, P365, or M&P Shield since they handle moisture well, you can stick with Kydex, skip leather, and wipe it down often

My solution is to dress for the humidity and holster my firearm to maximize protection for body salts and the coastal NC weather.

First, I wear a Hanes X-Temp sleeveless t-shirt under my t-shirt or other top garment. The X-temp is a moisture wicking shirt worn between my body and the holstered sidearm.

Second, I holster my EDC in a IWB Don Hume H715-M WCS leather holster with a sweat shield. My favorite summer carry pistol is a S&W models 3953. Sometimes, I may opt for a S&W 4053 or a Walther PPS m1.

Lastly, I wipe down the EDC weekly with a silicone impregnated gun cloth. I use a gold rod in my gun safe for guns other than my EDC and S&W Governor, and the safe guns get treated to a wipe down once every month or two.

I never really thought of rust on my guns - I have a few setups, but I do like leather holsters - depending on the rig, my g43x is a go to, but I also have an LCR for a much ligher carry, especially with shorts (I dislike belts).

I feel like if you're seeing surface rust, you aren't keeping your guns clean, particularly from your own finger prints, but I could be wrong or you're at the ocean.

Nice routine, I love the sweat-shield leather holster tip and X-Temp layer. I’ll try a silicone gun cloth and weekly wipedowns. Which rust inhibitor or cloth brand do you prefer?

Good point, fingerprints do speed corrosion. I rotate holsters (leather for comfort, Kydex for humid months), do weekly wipes and occasional deep cleans to prevent rust.
