It's a beat up old Stevens from like the 60s. Not worth much but it means everything to me. I took it out this weekend and it still shoots great. Anyone else hunting with old family guns? There's something special about it.

I still use my dad's old Remington 870 when it's turkey season, and it always brings back memories when I hold it. The finish is worn off, but it still patterns well and just feels right.

Every small game season, I still pull out my granddad’s old Stevens 311. The bluing's pretty faded and the wood stock's got its share of dings and scratches but that old gun still snaps shut solid as ever.

These posts make me think of my grandfather’s Remington that I was supposed to get but didn’t as life pulled me away(Marine Corps). It eventually made its way to my brother which is almost as good. I have been trying to get him to sell it to me for years even though I could afford another. I want that feeling you guys have shared, ha ha.

Occasionally still deer hunt with a Savage M99 in .300 Savage. Inherited it from my paternal Grandfather who lived in Washington state. He was the only other hunter in the family and would do pack-in trips in an old Jeep all through the 1940's/50' and 60's, taking Elk, Mule Deer and Whitetails with it.
I inherited it in the 1980's, and occasionally take a deer with it in honor of him.
The .300 Savage cartridge was the parent round for the .308 Win., with very similar performance on game.

Yeah, I get that some guns aren’t just guns, they’re family history you can’t really replace.

That’s a heck of a legacy rifle!
