Hey folks, looking to gather some honest opinions about our local gun shops. What makes a gun shop trustworthy to you? I've had a few great experiences, but also some that made me rethink where I buy my gear. If you've stumbled across a shop that goes above and beyond or, on the flip side, had a bad experience, I'd love to hear about it.

Let's focus on the details — is there a shop you'd recommend for their selection of used guns? How are their prices and transfer fees? Location is key too, so don't forget to mention where they're at. Let's help each other find those gems (and avoid the duds)! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

In my experience (27 years, 600 guns, 3 states) I've never been able to stick to one shop and that's unfortunate. I've either been ignored, screwed in some way or experienced aggressive or "expert advisors" The store I had success in would occasionally beat each other out in pricing and availability of certain arms and accessories. It's what it is.

Most of my experiences with locally owned and operated gun shops have been positive. There is one exception, a shop I had frequently bought ammo and accessories from. I spied a gun that I have desired for some time in their used gun case. It was a very clean, very lightly used CZ75, and they were asking a fair price for it. I don't like to purchase guns with a credit card and I only had $200 in cash on me at the time (which was around half the asking price of the gun) so I asked the clerk if I could put a $200 deposit on the gun and come back in two weeks after I got paid with the rest of the cash and pick up the gun. I was told that it was store policy that they do not take deposits to hold used guns. So I told them that I would never darken their doorstep with my shadow ever again if that's how they treat a regular customer. That was about two years ago and I have never gone back. There are too many LGS around to put up with that kind of nonsense.

East 70 Pawn in New Bern, NC is my go to place for guns and my limited fishing needs. Knowledgeable staff and no hard sell, FFL with pack and ship services, and a nice selection of new rifles and pistols with some used.
