I think AKs are better than ARs for most people. Yeah I said it. They're simpler, more forgiving and just work. ARs are great but everyone acts like they're perfect when they can be picky. Come at me AR guys, let's debate this.

I'm certainly no AR guy. But, the way I see it, they are both proven platforms, own or shoot what you like. For me, I'd rather have something designed in the US.

I’ve never had an ak, but I can certainly appreciate their history and legendary design. I’m not aure about more modern ones, but at least the older ones lacked options for mounting optics. I do have 2 ar’s. I didn’t clean or lubricate one of them to see how long it took to malfunction. I gave up after around 750 rounds and almost a year.

Better is subjective. I have both and can do just as much with either. TO me it comes down to personal choice.

The AK is overall a reliable platform until you get one that isn't, which is fairly rare. They can be problematic to get running right if it doesn't because there are less people that know how to work on them. The AR gets a bad rap for reliability, but that is driven mostly by cheap rifles or improperly assembled home-built rifles. The good news is that most gunsmiths are familiar enough with the AR platform to get it running correctly.

I have both and by far prefer shooting my AR's. For one thing they just feel better in my hands and not like some loose metal parts dropped together. I still like the AK but the comparison is not even close.
