Where do you like to shoot? I'm curious about both indoor and outdoor options and what makes you keep going back.

B&R Guns and Outdoor Ranges in Havelock, NC and Newport Gun Range in Newport, NC. Good folks and nice facilities.

Lately, all of my shooting has been at my son's farm near New Bern. Otherwise I shoot at Drake's Landing. It's like 15 minutes from home.

Not too far from me, about 35-45 minutes away. Been wanting to get out to Drakes.

Member of both DPRC near Mebane and Alamance Wildlife Club, better range facilities at DPRC but much quieter at AWC, often I'm the only one on the range.

Buckhorn Gun Club near Efland. They have 6 outdoor pistol ranges and 1 rifle range. My only criticism is the rifle range is only 100 yards (really about 95). I wish we had a good long range rifle range near me but I don't really know of one where you can use your own paper targets and shoot groups.

Distinguished rifle and pistol range has a 300 yard steel target range but that range really micromanages people so it isn't really as fun for me. Also, you can't shoot groups; just ring steel. I went a few times but let my membership lapse.

Thanks for the info. $500 initiation fee at DPRC seems a bit steep. What the heck is "initiation" anyway? Where is IIRC located?

Yes steep initial one time fee. IIRC it is 140ish per year. But good place to shoot and train. Lots going on. Well kept club

DRPC fee is $280 a year from their website. I won't be able to join right now as I can't justify $780 when I don't get paid during the summer. I have a friend who owns 180 acres in Leasburg that wants me to help develop his land and set up a shooting range. It will take some time and several weekends but he has the potential for 500 yards easy.

I am thinking ahead to retirement in a few years. I may set up a business as a long distance shooting range with a gunsmith shop on the premises. That sounds like a fun thing to do with my retirement.
